For the last few years, James has been photographing the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Southeastern, Wisconsin. Since his mother was diagnosed, and since beaten Breast Cancer, this event holds special significance for the whole Stukenberg family.
This past September was the first time James and I shot the event together. We arrived early, waiting for the crowds to pour in--and pour in they did. It was so inspiring to look out through our viewfinders over a sea of pink as thousands of participants and supporters, including survivors, gathered at the starting line. For them, it's a reason to hope, a time of reflection on loss, gratitude for life, and a good excuse to be silly with even the burliest of men donning pink tutus with spray painted beards.
We had a lot of fun covering the event with our friends Matt and Sarah Haas of Matt Haas Photography.
